Introduction to Hypnotherapy

Hypnotherapy is a powerful therapeutic modality that harnesses the power of the unconscious mind. All of us have experienced situations where, despite our best efforts, we have been unable to change a behaviour, break a habit or find ourselves falling back into old patterns despite our best efforts.


Our behavioural patterns start to form in infancy and this process continues for our entire life. Much of this process is benign and allows us to grow and transform into mature adults. Unfortunately, it is possible to pick up some debris along the way. Also, some behaviours that may have been beneficial to us in our youth can become detrimental to us as we get older. Some may have experienced trauma in their lives that had left an emotional wound that refuses to heal.


Some of us may have discovered that certain activities such as smoking, drinking, excessive social media usage can have a detrimental effect on our health. Some may want to moderate or reduce their usage while others may want to completely eliminate these activities from their lives.


People may want to make positive changes in their lives such as beginning a regular exercise routine, eating better, losing excess weight or spending more time with their loved ones. And while their enthusiasm keeps them going for a while, very frequently their enthusiasm starts to wane until, in the end, they see themselves back in the same rut they were trying to escape.


While it may be easy to blame the failure on a lack of will-power, when one understands the functioning of the unconscious mind, it becomes apparent that very often, will-power alone may not be enough. If we harness the power of our unconscious mind and harmonize it with our conscious will, maintaining our resolve becomes infinitely easier and usually brings lasting results.
